One of the Most Vulnerable Families We’ve Helped: The Story of the Tarasenko Family

The Tarasenko Family

In the long shadow of war, some stories reveal not only the depth of loss—but also the extraordinary resilience of the human spirit. The Tarasenko family, displaced from Ukraine’s Kherson region, is one of the most vulnerable families we’ve had the privilege to support.

Their journey began in a peaceful village that became a war zone. When Russian forces invaded, they lost everything—their home, their belongings, and their sense of safety. Forced to flee, they found shelter in a small rented dormitory room in Vinnytsia, starting over with nothing.

But their hardship runs far deeper than displacement alone.

This is a family facing nearly insurmountable odds: a 13-year-old girl entering her teenage years, an elderly grandmother in fragile health, and a mother living with profound disabilities. The grandmother—despite struggling with heart-related conditions—cares for both her granddaughter and her daughter, who is completely deaf and blind.

Kateryna Tarasenko, bright and determined, is doing her best to continue her education despite these circumstances. Her father has passed away, and the emotional and practical burdens of life fall heavily on her young shoulders. At school, she sees classmates supported by their parents—attending events, helping with homework—while she carries on quietly with the help of her grandmother.

And yet, despite all this, the family’s request was heartbreakingly simple: just a few essential items to make life a little safer, more stable, and more bearable in their current space.

Thanks to your generosity, Ukraine Power was able to meet that need. The total cost of the assistance was $1,080, excluding delivery.

Kateryna also lives with chronic health issues that require ongoing care, which makes your support all the more vital. Her dream is modest yet deeply human: a room of her own—a quiet space to study, rest, and simply feel safe.

This Story Is a Reminder

The war in Ukraine continues to reshape lives in unimaginable ways. While the world’s attention shifts, families like the Tarasenkos remain in its wake—quietly picking up the pieces, largely unseen, but deeply in need of support.

Their story is a powerful reminder of war’s long reach—not just through the destruction of homes, but through the quiet, relentless erosion of stability, health, and hope.

Thanks to supporters like you, the Tarasenko family now faces each day with a little more comfort—and the warmth of knowing they’re not alone.

Thank you for standing with Ukraine’s most at-risk families. Together, we bring hope where it’s needed most.
